A new edition of the prestigious Image Awards, which celebrates Nepal’s music industry, has been announced. After a brief hiatus, applications for artists and creators wishing to participate in the upcoming edition will open this Friday.

Organized by Image Group of Media, which also operates Image FM, the awards carry the slogan “Music Is Your Life.” The event has established itself as an important platform for recognizing the contributions of Nepali music creators, lyricists, composers, singers, and artists working in the music video industry. By encouraging emerging talent and honoring established creators, the awards have contributed to the growth and promotion of Nepal’s music industry.

With a history spanning more than two decades, the Image Awards are among the oldest and most prestigious awards in Nepal’s music sector. Previous editions have recognized outstanding artists and creators across various categories, including songs, music, composition, music videos, and People’s Choice.

Another significant feature of the Image Awards is the Lifetime Achievement Award, presented to individuals who have made lasting contributions to Nepali music and the arts. Prominent personalities honored with this recognition include Swar Kinnari Tara Devi, veteran composer Ambar Gurung, Natika Ji, Prem Dhoj Pradhan, Bhakta Raj Acharya, Deep Shrestha, Shambhujeet Baskota, and Prakash Gurung, among others.

The most recent edition, the 22nd Image Awards, was held on September 19, 2022 (Ashoj 3, 2079 BS), at the Soaltee Hotel in Kathmandu. During the ceremony, renowned comedians and musicians Madan Krishna Shrestha and Hari Bansha Acharya were honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Awards were presented to artists and creators across 15 categories at the event.

At a time when digital platforms are increasingly influencing the production and distribution of Nepali music, the return of the Image Awards is being viewed as particularly significant. Having played a role in honoring veteran creators and identifying emerging talent, the new edition is expected to once again bring together members of Nepal’s music industry on a common platform.
