A statue will be installed at Chowrasta, considered the heart of Darjeeling, in honor of popular Nepali film and music creator Prashant Tamang.

On the occasion of the 50th day of Tamang’s passing, GTA Chief Anit Thapa made this commitment during a meeting held in Siliguri on Sunday. Present at the meeting were Prashant’s wife Martha Ale, his daughter, and his sister Anupama. Thapa stated that a life-sized statue of Tamang would be installed at Chowrasta to keep the memory of Darjeeling’s pride alive forever.

Recalling Tamang’s contribution in bringing recognition to Darjeeling at both national and international levels, Thapa described the decision as historically and emotionally significant. The statue will be designed by renowned sculptor Amir Sundas. Known for his artistic excellence, Sundas will craft the statue to reflect Prashant’s personality, simplicity, and dedication to music.

“This is not merely the construction of a memorial,” Thapa said. “Installing Tamang’s statue at the famous tourist destination Chowrasta in Darjeeling will be a moment of pride for the entire Gorkha community and music lovers. It is also expected to inspire future generations.”

Through his melodious voice and humble personality, Prashant had won the hearts of millions.
