Nepal for the successful organization of the ‘Vishwamedha Mahayagya’

Shri Mahesh Chaitanya Brahmachari Maharaj has expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people of Nepal for the successful organization of the ‘Vishwamedha Mahayagya’, described as the first event of its kind in the world. He stated that by hosting such a rare and sacred Mahayagya, Nepal has earned immense spiritual merit.
Arriving in Nepal from India last December for the ceremony, Maharaj shared his views in a conversation with journalist Rajan Paudel before returning to India. He said Nepal successfully organized the Vishwamedha Mahayagya, and all participants contributed according to their resolve and capacity — through body, mind, and wealth — for which he expressed deep appreciation. He also conveyed his belief that the positive spiritual impact of the Mahayagya will contribute to Nepal’s brighter future.
Maharaj explained that although many types of Yagyas are performed elsewhere, the Vishwamedha Mahayagya is extraordinarily rare and difficult, and had not been conducted anywhere before. After extensive consultations, it was decided to hold it this year near the sacred Pashupatinath Temple, and it was successfully completed. He thanked everyone involved in making it possible.
He particularly acknowledged the support of Dr. Swami Rudrananda Brahmachari (Dhruvashree), the head priest of Swargadwari Ashram in Pyuthan, as well as Bikram Pandey and others.
At the closing ceremony, Maharaj reiterated that Nepal is the most fortunate country in the world because the Vishwamedha Yagya had never been held anywhere else before. Although he resides in India — a land considered sacred in itself — he said the credit for organizing the Vishwamedha Yagya belongs to Nepal. He emphasized that the Mahayagya was completed without any obstacles, following the Agama tradition, marking the first time it was conducted in Kathmandu.
Referring to religious tradition, Maharaj stated that in Satya Yuga, Lord Dattatreya performed the Vishwamedha Mahayagya, with the participation of Parashurama, Vashistha, Durvasa, and others. In this Kali Yuga, however, Nepal has become the first to successfully organize it, thereby earning great spiritual merit.
The Mahayagya was organized with the sacred objective of promoting peace, prosperity, and public welfare in Nepal. It was held from Magh 23, 2082 (Nepali calendar) to Falgun 4 at the premises of the Ved Vidyashram in Bankali, within the holy Pashupati area of Kathmandu.
A noted speaker at scholarly gatherings in Kashi and other places in India on Agama traditions and scriptures, Maharaj remarked that the number of Agama scholars is steadily declining. He said that genuine practitioners devoted to deep spiritual discipline are becoming extremely rare in both India and Nepal.
Having attained spiritual knowledge in Nepal and Tibet as well, Maharaj shared that although preparations for the Mahayagya had begun last year, it was postponed due to various reasons. With the support and cooperation of devotees and practitioners, it finally became possible this year to conduct the sacred Mahayagya in Nepal — a land he described as holy and meritorious.
Maharaj is scheduled to depart for India this evening, concluding his visit to Nepal.
